The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a police inspector and a corporal assigned to the Coast Regional Office of Kenya Power following allegations of seeking a KES 100,000 kickback from a local resident.
The officers, identified as Inspector Benjamin Ochieng and Corporal Said Bakari, reportedly confronted a Bombolulu resident over suspected illegal power connections.
Investigators say the duo pressed for the payment to drop potential legal proceedings and halt further inquiries into the matter.
After receiving a complaint regarding the extortion attempt, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) launched a covert probe to validate the claims.
On August 24, 2026, anti-graft agents staged a sting operation after observing the two suspects accompany the victim toward a bank on Moi Avenue to pick up the funds.
Detectives moved in and apprehended both officers directly outside DTB Bank right after they accepted a partial payment of KES 50,000.
The suspects were taken to Central Police Station for formal booking before being granted a cash bail of KES 30,000 while active inquiries continue.
