Politician Rose Mulwa, alias Rose Mbithe Ndeti and her two lawyer children, Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa, are set to face murder charges over the death of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, a prominent psychiatrist and former head of the African Institute of Mental and Brain Health, after the Director of Public Prosecutions officially notified the court on 24th August 2026.
Presenting the state, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jalson Makori stated that the DPP had filed murder charges against Rose Mbithe alongside her son and daughter.
With the formal charges now instituted, state prosecutors withdraw a previous request that sought extended detention for Angela Mulwa to complete inquiries.
Both Ms. Ndeti and Mr. Mulwa had similarly been held in custody to assist sleuths with the ongoing investigation.
According to court documents, Dr. Mutiso was gunned down in Nairobi on July 29, 2026. Early findings by detectives indicate that the deceased was embroiled in an active court case regarding a land dispute in Machakos.
In the period leading up to her killing, Dr. Mutiso had logged an official complaint detailing how two armed men on a motorbike intercepted her vehicle while she was driving through Nairobi.
Despite the attackers pointing a gun directly at her, she succeeded in fleeing the scene unharmed and immediately formally reported the confrontation at Kilimani Police Station.
The decision by the DPP to arraign the trio comes after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations wrapped up its initial probe into the assassination, uncovering evidence that directly connects the suspects to the crime.
