Three Kenyans are set to be extradited to the United States to face criminal charges after a Milimani law court approved an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on 6th July 2026.
Pending their surrender, Principal Magistrate Hon. P.K. Mutai directed that the three respondents be held at Industrial Area Prison.
The court endorsed warrants of arrest against Francis Asanyo, Peter Omari and Elvis Obaigwa, which had been issued on 15th November 2023 by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Richmond Division.
The three are wanted under U.S. law for conspiracy to commit computer intrusions, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and aiding and abetting.
This decision comes after the DPP reviewed a formal extradition request submitted by Jeffrey M. Olson, Associate Director, Office of International Affairs, Criminal Division, U.S. Department of Justice.
Transmitted on 26th February 2026 through Kenya’s Central Authority, the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice the request and supporting evidence satisfied all legal requirements for extradition, prompting the DPP to seek the court orders.
Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Vincent Monda led the prosecution, assisted by Principal Prosecution Counsel Victor Owiti and Prosecution Counsel Fatma Shaban.
