A bussineman accused of fraudulently obtaining more than Kshs. 93 million from several individuals through alleged fake land sale transactions was on Tuesday, 9th June, released on cash bail after pleading not guilty to multiple counts of obtaining money by false pretences.
Abdiwahab Sheikh Abdi appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Mutai. According to court documents seen by kauntinews.com, the accused is alleged to have obtained Kshs. 26 million from Emmanuel Wangwe between 31st October 2017 and 27th April 2018, by falsely representing that he was in a position to sell him a land parcel situated in Karen, Nairobi.
The prosecution contends that this representation was false and that the accused knew it to be so at the time.
The court further heard that, in a separate but related transaction, Abdiwahab allegedly obtained Kshs. 25 million from Bernard Masaka Shinali between 31st October 2017 and 26th April 2018 after similarly claiming he could sell the same parcel of land.

In another charge, Abdi is alleged to have obtained Kshs. 26.5 million from Ben Kiptoo Ego between 24th March 2017 and 2nd August 2017 through what prosecutors describe as a fraudulent land sale arrangement involving the Karen property.
The prosecution also alleges that, between 23rd August 2016 and 12th October 2016, Abdiwahab obtained Kshs. 16 million from Abdikadir Ali Ibrahim after falsely pretending he was in a position to sell him the same parcel of land.
During the proceedings, the accused, through his legal counsel, opposed the prosecution’s position regarding the handling of the two cases.
The prosecution urged the court not to consolidate the files, arguing that the matters involve different complainants, separate transactions, and distinct facts, despite relating to the same parcel of land.
After hearing the parties, Magistrate Paul Mutai admitted the accused to bond. In the first matter, the court ordered him to deposit a bond of Kshs. 2 million or an alternative cash bail of Kshs. 500,000.
Similar bond terms were granted in the second case, with the accused required to post a bond of Kshs. 2 million or an alternative cash bail of Kshs. 500,000.
The court directed that the matter be mentioned on 24th June 2026 for pre-trial directions.
