Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmas Barasa has promised to deliver the people of Sirisia Constituency from the hands of what he calls “Pharaoh hands.”
“The people of Sirisia, I will pray for you. Just in the same way, the children of Israel suffered in the hands of Pharaoh, and God said, ‘Let my people go.’ That day is coming,” vowed Didmas.
The MP, who is eying the Bungoma gubernatorial seat together with former governor Wycliffe Wangamati, Zacharia Barasa and Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi who is working closely with the Sirisia MP, John Waluke spoke during a public function following remarks made by Waluke on the people of Sirisia deciding not to vote for a woman as an MCA.
Barasa quoted Waluke’s words: “The MCA here is a woman, she has been an MCA for fifteen years. Now, the people here have decided that the next MCA should be a man,” Waluke said in a previous function.
The remarks apparently did not sit well. The Kimilili Member of Parliament wondered how Waluke, who has been an MP for 15 years himself and is now asking for twenty, could ask the people not to elect the MCA who has also been voted in the same amount of times.
“He is also a man who has been an MP for fifteen years, and he is asking for twenty. How can a normal person behave in such a manner? And he has two wives,” wondered Barasa.
Barasa described how Waluke handled a man sent by the aspiring MCA to represent her.
“There is a young man who came with a small amount of money in his hand. He wanted to be given a microphone to campaign for the lady. I think she is a former principal over there in Malakisi,” described Barasa.
He recounted how Waluke told the man that people of the area had decided that the MCA here is a woman, who has been an MCA for fifteen years. “Now, the people here have decided that the next MCA should be a man.”
Barasa emphasized that Waluke has no power in deciding how the people choose to vote. “Who are you to say that the people of this area have now decided, ‘going forward, we are going to elect a woman’? That is complete disrespect,” concluded Barasa.
