It has been over a decade since the former Kabete MP George Muchai, along with his two bodyguards and driver, was brutally murdered by armed men on the night of 6th February 2015 along Kenyatta Avenue in the heart of Nairobi.
Today, 13th March 2026, seven suspects suspected to be connected to the incident appeared at the Milimani Law Court before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina for charges related to robbery. While delivering his judgment, Onyina found four men guilty of robbery with violence, while two others were convicted of being in possession of firearms and ammunition without a license. One suspect was set free in connection with the murder of the former Kabete MP.
The four men Erick Munyera alias Chairman, Raphael Kimani alias Kim Butcher, Mustafa Kimani alias Musto, and Stephen Astiva were convicted after the court was satisfied with the prosecution’s evidence, which the magistrate described as beyond a reasonable doubt.
The four were found guilty of multiple crimes, including robbery with violence in violation of Section 296(2) of the Penal Code, and possession of firearms and ammunition without certification, contrary to Section 4(2)(a) as read with Section 4(3)(b) of the Firearms Act.

However, Simon Wambugu was acquitted due to insufficient evidence linking him to the crimes. The convictions are rooted in the events of the night of February 6–7, 2015, when an armed gang launched a daring assault along Kenyatta Avenue, Nairobi.
The assailants fatally shot the former Kabete member of Parliament, along with his two bodyguards and driver a chilling incident that shocked the entire nation. The magistrate also noted that the same criminal group not only carried out this deadly attack but also engaged in a string of robberies.
They targeted members of the public, violently dispossessing victims of their personal belongings amid the chaos of that night. He highlighted notable similarities among several robbery cases linked to the accused, including the pattern of attackers involved, weapons used, coordination during assaults, and the sequence of events all connecting the suspects to the crimes and strengthening the prosecutor’s case.
Additional charges related to other robberies committed by the same gang demonstrated the extent of their operations. The court’s findings underscored the daring nature and scale of the criminal enterprise conducted by the group during that period.
The matter will now proceed to sentencing on 18th March 2026.
