Fear has surrounded the family and friends of former cabinet secretary Raphael Tuju, along with his driver, Steve Mwangi, amid reports of their sudden disappearance. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an investigation into the matter.
Tuju was scheduled for a Saturday night radio interview but did not return home, and his phone has been off since then. It wasn’t until Sunday morning that his son, Mano, received a call from the Karen Police Station’s OCS, who inquired about an abandoned vehicle.
His lawyer confirmed that the former CS’s phone has been off since Saturday night. Later, his car was found abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Karen, Nairobi. On Sunday, the DCI announced that they had launched investigations into the reported disappearance of the former CS.
In a statement obtained by kauntinews.com, the DCI said, “Tuju was reported missing by his family on Sunday, March 22, 2026. His motor vehicle was discovered abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Karen, with its hazard lights on. A security guard from a nearby institution alerted authorities, prompting a swift response by officers from Karen Police Station.

The scene was later processed by Crime Scene Investigators, and the vehicle was towed to Karen Police Station for further forensic examination.”According to officers, efforts to reach Tuju have so far been unsuccessful, as his mobile phone remains switched off.
A specialized team has been deployed to handle the case, working in coordination with other relevant government agencies to establish his whereabouts. The investigative team is utilizing all available resources and techniques to determine the circumstances surrounding his reported disappearance.
The officers are also calling on the public for information. “We are asking members of the public who may have information regarding Hon. Tuju’s whereabouts, or who may have seen him, his vehicle, or any suspicious activity in the Miotoni Lane or greater Karen area before, on, or after March 21, 2026, to come forward,” they stated.
This incident comes amid ongoing court cases involving Tuju over the auction of his prime properties in Karen. The dispute is reportedly related to his alleged failure to repay a Ksh.1.9 billion loan borrowed from the East African Development Bank (EADB) back in 2015.
